Abstract

NTP is the ratio between the price index received by farmers (IT) and the price index paid by farmers (Ib) expressed in percent.

In January 2007, the Kalimantan Timur Farmers Exchange Rate (NTP) was recorded at 78.87, up 0.85 percent compared to the December 2006 NTP which reached 78.21. This is due to an increase in the price index received by farmers by 2.01 percent, greater than the increase in the price index paid by farmers by 1.15 percent.

The NTP index is always smaller than 100 which implies that during the observation period above, the level of welfare of farmers in the province of Kalimantan Timur was worse than in 1993 when it was used as a base year.

The level of welfare of farmers is not as good as expected. For this reason, several policies need to be taken to improve it, and at the same time to ensure the continuity of farming, which in turn will maintain and increase domestic food production in order to secure food security.
