CHILD LABOR IN KALIMANTAN TIMUR

Abstract

Since 2004, the development of the workforce of the population aged 10-17 has tended to fluctuate. The percentage of the workforce in 2004 was 8.91 percent and in 2006 it dropped to 8.58 percent.
  • In 2006 the pattern of employment by sector was not much different from the condition in the previous year.
  • In 2006 the number of child workers working in the agricultural sector was 59.74 percent. When viewed by sex it is seen that male workers are mostly absorbed in the agricultural sector, reaching 80.49 percent. On the other hand, female workers are absorbed more in the service sector, which is 66.94 percent.
  • In 2006 the highest level of education completed by most child laborers was elementary school level, reaching 59.21 percent.
