Abstract

Kalimantan Timur in May 2009 experienced a deflation of 0.03 percent, or a decline in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 117.76 in April 2009 to 117.72 in May 2009. With these inflation rates, the inflation rate for the calendar year 2009 (Jaruari-May 2009) Kalimantan Timur has reached 0.94 percent and the 'year on year' inflation rate (May 2009 against May 2008) has reached 7.71 percent.

Samarinda and Tarakan experienced deflation of 0.08 and 0.19 percent respectively. While Balikpapan experienced inflation of 0.07 percent. Thus for these three cities (Samarinda, Balikpapan and Tarakan) the inflation rate for calendar year 2009 (January-May 2009) has each reached 1.67; 0.23 and 0.43 percent and the 'year on year' inflation rate (May 2009-May 2008) reaching 8.09; 6.65 and 9.52 percent.
