During April 2020, there was a deflation of -0.14 percent in Kalimantan Timur

Abstract

  • In April 2020, out of 90 national CPI monitoring municipalities, 39 municipalities experienced inflation and 51 other municipalities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Bau-bau Municipality by 0.88 percent and the lowest occurred in the Cirebon Municipality, Depok Municipality and Balikpapan Municipality each by 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang Municipality by -0.92 percent and the lowest in Bogor Municipality and Semarang Municipality by -0.02 percent.
  • Kalimantan Timur Province (Samarinda Municipality and Balikpapan Municipality) in April 2020 experienced deflation of -0.14 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 0.42 percent and a year-on-year inflation rate of 1.96 percent.
  • In April 2020 deflation occurred in Samarinda Municipality by -0.28 and inflation in Balikpapan Municipality by 0.02 percent.
  • Deflation occurred due to falling prices as indicated by the decline in several indexes of the expenditure group, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by -0.34 percent; followed by the transportation group by -1.24 percent; and the information, communication and financial services group by -0.48 percent. Other groups experienced an increase in index, namely the group of equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance by 0.56 percent; health group of 0.58 percent; recreation, sports and culture group of 0.06 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.05 percent; and personal care and other services by 1.54 percent. The groups that tend to be stable are the clothing and footwear group; housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups; and education groups respectively by 0.00 percent.
