During March 2020, there was a deflation in price with -0.15 percent in Kalimantan Timur

Abstract

  • In March 2020, out of 90 national CPI monitoring municipalities, 43 municipalities experienced inflation and 47 other municipalities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Lhoksumawe Municipality by 0.64 percent and the lowest occurred in Surabaya, Surakarta and Pekanbaru by 0.02 percent respectively. While the highest deflation occurred in Timika Municipality by -1.91 percent and the lowest in Tangerang Municipality by -0.01 percent.
  • Kalimantan Timur Province (Samarinda Municipality and Balikpapan Municipality) in March 2020 experienced deflation of -0.15 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 0.56 percent and a year-on-year inflation rate of 2.19 percent.
  • In March 2020 deflation occurred in Samarinda and Balikpapan in the amount of -0.15 percent.
  • Deflation occurred due to falling prices as indicated by the decrease in several indexes of the expenditure group, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by -0.17 percent followed by the group of equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance by -0.14 percent and the transportation group by -1.46 percent. Other groups showed an increase in index, namely the clothing and footwear group of 0.03 percent; housing, water, electricity and household fuel by 0.04 percent; health group of 0.21 percent; recreation, sports and culture group by 0.18 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.06 percent; and personal care and other services by 1.16 percent. Groups that tend to be stable are the information, communication and financial services group and the education group respectively by 0.00 percent.
