During February 2022, there was a deflation of -0.34 percent in Kalimantan Timur

Abstract

In February 2022, of the 90 cities monitored by the national CPI, 37 cities experienced inflation and 53 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Kupang at 0.65 percent and the lowest at 0.01 percent occurred in Tanjung Selor. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan at -2.08 percent and the lowest at -0.01 percent occurred in Palembang, Palangka Raya and Tarakan.
  • Kalimantan Timur Province (Combined City of Samarinda and City of Balikpapan) in February 2022 experienced a deflation of -0.34 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 0.53 percent and a year-on-year inflation rate of 2.35 percent.
  • In February 2022, there was a deflation for Samarinda City of -0.20 percent and in Balikpapan City there was also a deflation of -0.51 percent.
  • Deflation occurred due to a decrease in prices as indicated by the decline in several indexes of expenditure groups, namely: food, beverages, and tobacco by -1.26 percent; followed by recreation, sports and culture groups by -0.34 percent; information, communication, and financial services group by -0.24 percent; and transportation group by -0.17 percent. The groups that experienced an increase in the index included the equipment, equipment, and routine household maintenance groups by 0.49 percent; personal care and other services group by 0.41 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0.15 percent; health group by 0.09 percent; education group by 0.05 percent; and housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups by 0.02 percent. The food and beverage/restaurant supply group tends to be stable with inflation of 0.00 percent.
