During May 2022, there was an inflation of 0.59 percent in Kalimantan Timur Province

Abstract

In May 2022, of the 90 cities monitored by the national CPI, 87 cities experienced inflation and 3 other cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan at 2.24 percent and the lowest at 0.05 percent occurred in Gunung Sitoli and Tangerang. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Kotamobagu at -0.21 percent and the lowest at -0.02 percent occurred in Merauke.
  • Kalimantan Timur  Province (Samarinda City and Balikpapan City Combined) in May 2022 saw inflation of 0.59 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 3.02 percent and a year-on-year inflation rate of 4.27 percent.
  • In May 2022 there was inflation for Samarinda City of 0.64 percent and in Balikpapan City there was also inflation of 0.52 percent.
  • Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in several indexes of expenditure groups, namely: food, beverages, and tobacco by 1.34 percent; followed by the transportation group by 1.05 percent; recreation, sports and culture groups by 0.65 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0.35 percent; health group by 0.30 percent; housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups by 0.24 percent; household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance group by 0.12 percent; then the food and beverage/restaurant supply group with inflation of 0.05 percent; and the information, communication, and financial services group by 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the group that experienced a decline in the index in May was the personal care and other services group by -0.31 percent. For the education group in the period of May 2022, there were no price changes and tended to be stable.
