Abstract

The export value of Kalimantan Timur Province in December 2024 was recorded at US$2,418.47 million, an increase of 10.44 percent compared to November 2024.
Oil and gas exports in December 2024 were recorded at US$316.71 million, up by 20.44 percent compared to November 2024. Meanwhile, non-oil and gas exports amounted to US$2,101.76 million, an increase of 9.08 percent.
Cumulatively, the export value of Kalimantan Timur Province from January to December 2024 was recorded at US$24,665.65 million, a decline of 8.73 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
By commodity group, the largest increase in non-oil and gas export value in December 2024 compared to November 2024 occurred in the mineral fuels category, which rose by US$122.85 million (7.84 percent). On the other hand, the deepest decline was in the organic chemicals category, which decreased by US$7.34 million (68.79 percent).
During the January–December 2024 period, China was the main export destination, contributing the largest share with an export value of US$8,161.81 million (36.83 percent), followed by India with US$3,357.1 million (15.15 percent) and the Philippines with US$1,899.77 million (8.57 percent).
In the January–December 2024 period, mining commodities remained the backbone of Kalimantan Timur's exports, accounting for 73.21 percent of total exports. The industrial sector ranked second with a share of 16.47 percent, while oil and gas exports were in third place with a share of 10.17 percent.
The three ports that contributed the most to Kalimantan Timur's total export value in December 2024 were Balikpapan Port (US$658.24 million), Samarinda Port (US$594.32 million), and Bonthan Bay Port (US$329.41 million).
The import value of Kalimantan Timur Province in December 2024 was recorded at US$518.91 million, an increase of 46.97 percent compared to November 2024.
Oil and gas imports were recorded at US$391.57 million, up by 60.55 percent compared to November 2024. Meanwhile, non-oil and gas imports in December 2024 were recorded at US$127.34 million, an increase of 16.63 percent.
The largest increase in non-oil and gas import value occurred in the machinery and mechanical equipment category, which rose by US$16.35 million (37.62 percent). Conversely, the deepest decline was in the organic chemicals category, which fell by US$2.65 million (54.75 percent).
In terms of contribution to total non-oil and gas imports during the January–December 2024 period, China dominated as the main source country with US$484.51 million (32.39 percent), followed by the United States with US$203.51 million (13.60 percent) and Japan with US$113.57 million (7.59 percent).
By goods usage category, all groups experienced an increase in December 2024. The highest increase was recorded in the consumer goods category, which surged by 379.20 percent, followed by raw materials/intermediary goods and capital goods, which increased by 47.47 percent and 27.76 percent, respectively.
Kalimantan Timur's trade balance in December 2024 recorded a surplus of US$1,899.56 million. The non-oil and gas trade balance showed a surplus of US$1,974.42 million, while the oil and gas sector recorded a deficit of US$74.86 million.
