Abstract

The economy of Kalimantan Timur measured by the GRDP based on current prices in the second quarter of 2009 reached Rp. 69.9 trillion, while the GRDP at constant 2000 prices is Rp. 25.5 trillion.

Kalimantan Timur economic growth in the second quarter of 2009 compared to the first quarter of 2009 (q-to-q) of positive 1.26 percent increased compared to the previous quarter. While growth in the second quarter of 2009 compared to the same quarter of the previous year (y-on-y) experienced a correction of negative 1.06 percent.

Based on a review of the performance of the GRDP by business sector (q-to-q) in the second quarter of 2009, the mining and quarrying sector increased by 1.36 percent which was influenced by an increase in coal mine production by 3.74 percent. Similarly, the manufacturing industry sector rose 1.25 percent which was supported by the development of Kalimantan Timur mainstay commodity, namely the production of petroleum refineries recorded a positive growth of 10.65 percent. Specifically the development of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry in the first quarter of 2009 slightly corrected by negative 0.85 percent. For the agricultural sector, it decreased significantly to negative 11.78 percent as a factor of seasonal cycles and uncertain climate
